We know sitting too much is bad, and most of us intuitively feel a little guilty after a long TV binge. But what exactly goes wrong in our bodies when we park ourselves for nearly eight hours per day, the average for a U.S. adult. Many things, say four experts, who detailed a chain of problems from head to toe. 

Researchers have linked sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns, including obesity and metabolic syndrome - a cluster of conditions that includes increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. Low back pain is the number one reason a person will see a health care provider. Also, cutting daily sitting time might extend life by two years.
